Daintree Rainforest Tours supplement the 2-hour Grand Fan Palm Gallery Tour with a 1-hour interpreted cruise through the world’s most diverse mangrove community, habitat to estuarine crocodiles and an astonishing diversity of lifeforms, with an a la carte lunch in a nearby rainforest restaurant and rounded off in the exquisite setting of a rainforest picnic site with afternoon tea and access to a freshwater section of Cooper Creek (weather permitting).
Cooper Valley is the central, most bio-diverse area of Daintree Rainforest. Its location in the lowlands of Thornton Peak provides the evidence of continuity over 170 million years. The 5-Hour Package explores the extraordinary accumulation of primitive and ancient flora and fauna by combining the outstanding 2-hour guided interpreted walk through magnificent fan palm dominated rainforest with a 1-hour mangrove cruise. The walk is interpreted by a local expert who is a long term inhabitant able to include unique understandings of this complex ecosystem. Strategies for survival within a complex ecosystem include exquisite camouflage and mimicry. The mangrove cruise immerses the clients in Australia’s richest mangrove system and searches for the elusive Estuarine Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) and other wildlife. The skipper of the cruise boat explains the features of mangrove communities and their role in maintaining the interface between rainforest and reef.
To allow a full immersion in Daintree Rainforest, the 3-Hour Walk and Cruise combination is enhanced with select venues for lunch at Heritage Lodge, a cup of tea or coffee beside Cooper Creek in a natural rainforest setting and an optional swim if weather permits.
