Camera Traps – March 2022 accrued 172-cassowaries, 14-dingoes and 85-feral pigs. Against the cumulative monthly average, cassowary numbers rose by 27%, whilst dingoes fell by 51% and feral-pigs also dropped by 31%. Against March 2021, cassowaries were 195%-up, dingo numbers doubled and feral-pig numbers fell by 16%.

Daintree Power
A momentous event occurred on the seventh evening of March 2022 at Heritage Lodge … in The Daintree, with Assistant Minister to the Minister for Industry, Energy and Emissions Reduction, the Honourable Tim Wilson MP releasing $18.75-million and cutting the virtual ribbon to allow Stage 1 of the Daintree Renewable Microgram (DRM) to proceed.
Representing the most irreplaceable protected-area in the world (per unit area), Daintree Rainforest is renowned for its outstanding biological diversity, beauty, rarity, endemism and threatened-species. However, Australia’s most-deserving environment of the cleanest and most sustainable form of electricity, actually has the dirtiest and most expensive; with more engine-generators per capita in the Daintree Rainforest than probably anywhere else in the country and the costs of generating power to households on a per-property basis having been calculated at up to twenty-times the cost of equalised tariffs.
In pursuit of improvement, the Commonwealth Government-funded DRM will be the first of its kind, anywhere in the world, providing affordable and reliable power to the residents and businesses within the Daintree Rainforest community and to cease reliance on millions of litres of diesel fuel annually.
Because the project aims to protect and conserve the unique environment, promoting social, economic and environmental balance and supporting environmentally sustainable practices, education and great environmental awareness amongst visitors to and residents of the Douglas Shire, it should be heartily supported by local, regional, state and national environmental lobby-groups, which in turn should encourage the Queensland Government to throw its greatest possible support behind this important project which aims to protect and support this Queensland-based World Heritage wonder.
Daintree Rainforest Foundation Ltd has been registered by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and successfully entered onto the Register of Environmental Organisations. Donations made to the Daintree Rainforest Fund support the Daintree Rainforest community custodianship and are eligible for a tax deduction under the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997.
